About Us

I knew very quickly after I arrived in the US in 1984 that I had to change my name. Nobody could say Joachim*, and the closest most people came pronouncing my name was to very quickly say “yourwelcome.”

OK, my Ex had a name already made up for me and informed me  that from now on I would be
 “Jake”.
And that’s who I am since then.

I studied Forestry in one of the most beautiful cities in Germany, Freiburg im Breisgau, which is also called
 —technically not quite correct —
the capital of the Black Forest.

I also studied Forest Management at the University of Maine.

If all that didn’t scare you too much, call me at

or send an email to J.M@jmforestry.com

*Even so one famous namesake was Jesus’ grandfather,
 St. Maria’s father.

Sandy Cohen of Little Deer Isle took this photo in winter of 2004. I normally don’t look that good, so thanks Sandy, great shot!
